Cardiovascular & Resistance Training / Shaping & Toning
Cardio (CV) exercise is any exercise that raises your heart rate. Each programme will include a small amount of cardio as it is the heart, lungs and circulation that provide the working muscles with oxygen. If trained regularly there is a much lower risk of heart attack or stroke. And to keep our muscles in shape we need to move them.
Different types of CV exercise
There are many different types of CV exercise, but the most effective CV exercises are those that use the largest muscle groups in the body and require you to support your own body weight while exercising.
Walking, jogging, running, rowing, cycling, swimming & aerobic workouts are excellent fat burning exercise. They are great for your CV workout as they use the large muscles in your body and are great for burning fat!
“Fitness is about so much more than exercise. It’s a catalyst for positive change, and it affects every aspect of your life.”
Benefits of Cardio
With doing regular Cardio exercise, it will help keep our muscles in shape making them stronger, and it will also make for a more efficient and healthy body, heart, lungs and circulation as mentioned above, and not forgetting the burning of calories!
I am able to encourage you and help you improve your cardio, whether it be indoors in my studio, using the treadmill, cross trainer, rower, static bicycle and rebounder. As well as taking you outside if you prefer, for power walking, jogging or a mixture of both.
Shaping & Toning
Resistance training is the best way to increase the metabolism. It is another name for exercising your muscles using an opposing force i.e. using weights or resistance bands.
In the old days, it used to be called ‘Weight Training’, but this phrase invoked images of huge sweaty men with bulging biceps and wasn’t very popular with women. So, the language has changed but the activity remains the same.
Resistance training, toning and weight training are one and the same activity; they require the use of resistance to increase muscle size and strength. The most well-known equipment used for Resistance Training is weights.
“Exercise is king. Nutrition is queen. Put them together, and you’ve got a kingdom.”
Benefits of Resistance Training
Resistance Training can be used to achieve a variety of beneficial results in particular to improve your body shape. To firm & sculpture your muscles. Increased muscle tone is best achieved by completing a combination of resistance and aerobic (CV) workouts.
As well as making your body look & feel good, resistance training can be used to increase muscle strength for many different sporting activities. Including more functional things such as improved posture.
Increased muscle power
More advanced resistance training programmes that include performing exercises with increased momentum will improve muscle power. This could be very useful if your like me, love a good round of golf, and rely on swinging that golf club!
Increased metabolic rate
Muscle tissue is metabolically active and the more of it you have the more calories you will burn – even at rest! Making losing and maintaining a healthy weight much easier!
Improved bone health
Regularly participating in resistance based exercise helps to maintain peak bone mass and avoid the onset of osteoporosis.
